Worksheet3

Devil children?

  1. Think about and list examples of children’s misbehavior and upbringing issues.
  • Disruptive talking, abusive language
  • Rudeness, hostility, aggressivity
  • Avoidance of work, laziness, no motivation
  • Lying
  • Bullying
  • Resistance to authority and rules
  • Anxiety
  • Truanting

  1. Think about and list potential causes. You are welcome to consult sources (but please acknowledge them properly).
  • Parents’ divorce or arguments
  • Lost of a parent
  • Too strict or too free upbringing
  • Unhappy love
  • Repeated feeling of failure
  • Lack of money in the family
  • Differences in appearance (glasses,…)

  1. Identify behavior issues in the extract by:
  1. Patterson – there is a girl whose mother does not care about her and she is in foster care.
  2. Kinney – a boy, who lies because it is profitable for him and he bullies younger kids.

  1. Select one and think about strategies (teaching, parental, or both) that you think are effective. Explain why.

I can’t even image how difficult it is for Galadriel. I think that these children are pushed to grow up too early. She must have serious trust issues, I would do my best not to let her down. I would explain her that there are rules in the classroom and stick on them, on the other hand I would let her more free space, let her decide and instead of forcing her I would try to fill her with enthusiasm. Honestly, if a new pupil came for these reasons into my classroom during the school year, I would cooperate with a specialist.

  1. Now compare with the strategies adopted by the adults in the extracts and evaluate them.

The woman from the foster service has very responsible work. I really don’t know how to work with these kids, but it seemed to be that she did not care about the girl much. She did not even call her by her full name even though it was her wish. She also gave her lot of orders. It must have been a difficult situation for Gilly and I would be more sympathetic.
