Motivation
SAMPLE 1 (8th class)
Motivate pupils it seems sometimes to be a superhuman task.
Once we read a text in the students book Who killed John Ross which is a detective story with quite lot of complicated vocabulary.
After reading they were supposed to divide into groups of four or five and come up with their own Whodunit. At first they seemed to be quite annoyed but when they got to know that they are almost free in how to do it they started work on it. They could think up their own story with an open ending because it should have been task for the other groups to guess. They should have had some props like paintings with description and costumes. After the work which took almost 4 lessons they presented it to each other. The groups wanted to be good so they put a lot of effort in it.
SAMPLE 2 (any class)
Making a picture dictionary
It is very easy task to do and my pupils have liked it. I have chosen a topic for a certain class like professions or sports and the pupils needed to talk to each other to agree who would represent who. They can bring any costumes or props they want. After it they take photos of each other and afterwards they arrange it on PC and add a tag with an English definition. The photographs are developed and put into a photobook which is displayed in the language room where everybody can see it and learn something new. It is fun for pupils during making it and also for other pupils of the school.
