MY PLANS

I have a very clear vision about my future career. When I was at the primary school I met a teacher, who inspired me so much that I wanted to become a teacher. She taught Czech and she was also a guidance counsellor. And this is my goal in my career. I have achieved one part of it so far, I am an English teacher and one day I would also like to be a guidance counsellor – be there for students and help them.

Since I am now on maternity leave and my contract at a primary school, where I was teaching, ended, I will have to find an appropriate school for me. Before the day comes I am going to graduate at the university. There are three years ahead me when I do not have a connection with teaching. The ongoing studies help me to keep in touch with English and serve as a huge source of inspiration. After the studies I need to teach some private lessons, read English books and watch films and series in original as much as possible in order not to forget everything and be ready to start the job again.

The location and size of the primary school, where I would like to teach, became very important for me. These two criterions will be determinative when I am going to choose where to teach. I experienced both a big and small school and I like the one where there are about five hundred students and less. It gives me a chance to get to know all the students and cooperate well with other colleagues. I live in Brno and I taught here, and I know that it is not what I want for my child or me. For four years I taught in a small town called Újezd u Brna and I was really satisfied there. It seems to me that in the small town children are nicer to each other, parents cooperate better with the school and the whole attitude is more personal. For these reasons I am going to look for a school at the periphery or close to Brno but not directly in it.

I hope that the next school is going to let me attend seminars as I was used to. I went once or twice a half year to a seminar I chose. The seminar was usually organized by some publisher or the service centre for schools. It would be also very beneficial to meet at the new school a colleague who would be enthusiastic and willing to cooperate with me. We would take part in various projects and in an international cooperation with other schools. I would take it not only as an opportunity for pupils to practise their English but also mine.

I am aware of my weaknesses in English. There will always be a room for improvement and learning. I realize that it is a never-ending process. Therefore, I am going to travel with my family as much as possible, read professional articles and books, find information and inspiration on the Internet. I am also addicted to series and music which contributes to my development as well. In conclusion, I do not think that my attitude to English and its learning is ever going to change. Unfortunately, I expect that the free time for my professional development will be reduced in the future.
